Attorney Calls Out Society’s Double Standard About Being ‘Professional’ And She Speaks Nothing But Facts
One female TikToker recently called out society for having twisted views on professional women versus professional men, and her message is really important. Rachel is an attorney in California who is very open about her past work in the nightlife industry.
She explains that even though she's a highly respected professional now, people look down on her for being open with her body on social media. Even though it's acceptable for men to post pictures of themselves in swim shorts, women can't seem to do the same without being judged.
Meet Rachel
Rachel, known as @rachel__diane on TikTok, is a licensed defense attorney in the state of California.
She also owns her own cosmetics company, My Royalty Cosmetics. Her company donates a portion of its proceeds toward pro-bono legal work for children in the inner cities.
She Went Viral
Rachel recently posted a video calling out society's sexist double standard when it comes to what constitutes "professional" for men and women.
The video got a lot of attention and she went viral on TikTok.
Rachel Worked In Clubs And Bars For Many Years
Before she worked as an attorney, Rachel explains that she spent many years working in clubs and bars.
And now, she's calling out the sexism and what she has to deal with in order to be seen as a "professional" now that she's in the law industry.
She's Open About Her Past
"Let me be clear about something," Rachel says in the video. "I have been a go-go dancer, I have been a bottle girl, and I have been a stripper."
"I've been arrested more than once. I almost failed out of college, I failed a class in law school as well..."
She's Confident With Her Body And Likes To Show It Off
"When I go out drinking, I have no problem having my bum out, shaking for the world. When I go out to the beach, I have no problem wearing a provocative bikini and shaking it on a yacht while my friends pour champagne on me."
"When I go out, I have no problem wearing see-through clothing and fishnets."
It Doesn't Make Her Less Of A Professional
"And NOTHING of what I just said makes me any less of a professional. Nothing of what I just said makes me any less of a phenomenal attorney," she continues.
She explains that people don't actually have a problem with people in "professional" fields having lives outside work, but rather professional women sharing images of their personal lives. People have issues with professional women being open with their bodies.
She Compared A Male Doctor's Photo To Her Own
"This does not bother you. This is not unprofessional to you. This is a great example of work-life balance to you," she says as she shows pictures of men in swim trunks at the beach.
"But THIS is disrespectful," she says, showing a picture of herself in a bikini. "This is unprofessional. This is a disgrace to a 'professional' field."
Men Seem To Get Off Scot-Free
"So you do not have a problem with professionals living their lives, enjoying their lives, [or] having a past."
"Because those first three examples, they were all doctors and lawyers, and you didn't have a problem with any of them. The last example was me. Still a lawyer, but now I'm a woman."

Rachel Spoke To BuzzFeed About The Situation
When asked about the divide in how professional men and women are treated, Rachel told BuzzFeed: "There's a divide because this is the first time in history that a majority of women are taking over these professional fields."
"They're the breadwinners at home or equal money suppliers. They're doctors, lawyers, teachers, professors, nurses, CEOs, engineers, financial investors, etc. These are all male-dominated jobs. We're breaking boundaries. We're 'taking men's jobs.' We're 'intimidating' and 'emasculating' men with our success."

And it's obviously not just Rachel who has noticed the discrepancy in people's attitudes toward a professional man's private life and a professional woman's.
Commenters who work as teachers and doctors shared their own experiences. And one commenter explained that her mom who works in law agrees with this message wholeheartedly.
