A Man’s Text To His ‘Speechless’ Ex-Girlfriend Before His Wedding Day Has People Divided
Everyone knows that the people we date help shape the person we become. While some of us look back on past relationships with happiness, others look back and feel heartbreak. But hopefully, there was something to be learned along the way.
One woman on Twitter has gone viral for sharing the text message her ex-boyfriend sent her the day before his wedding. Now, it's polarizing users who wonder whether it was a sweet or inappropriate gesture.
Wedding Bells Are Ringing
After a year or more of planning, it's finally your wedding day! You're probably envisioning a perfect day, but most importantly, you should be thinking about your new husband or wife-to-be.
Of all the people you wouldn't expect to think about the day before your wedding, an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend is probably fairly high up on that list.
The Tweet
Alexsa, also known as @_xolexc on Twitter, went viral for sharing the unexpected exchange she had over text with an ex-boyfriend. The tweet received 400,000 likes and over 100,000 retweets, but what's most notable about is the way it divided Twitter users.
She captions the tweet with, "I - I'm speechless."
An Unexpected Text
The story begins with a random text message Alexsa received from an unknown number.
The mystery man then introduces himself as Alexsa's ex-boyfriend. When she lets down her guard, she asks him how he's been, and it's probably fair to say she wasn't expecting what her ex was about to say next.
I'm Getting Married Tomorrow
In a long text message, her ex-boyfriend explains why he's messaging her after all this time. He says that he's getting married the next day (his fiancée is aware of the text) and wanted to thank Alexsa for being his first love. He adds that her encouragement, keeping him out of trouble, and caretaking when he was unwell meant the world to him.
"I know we were only kids when we dated but you taught me what love is," he wrote.
I Wish You Love And Happiness
In the last half of the text message, Alexsa's ex-boyfriend says that he hopes she one day finds a husband who realizes how lucky he is to have her.
"You taught me love, you taught me how to deal with my anger, how to deal with my depression and how to live life to the fullest and I'm grateful for you. I wish you love and happiness."
Alexsa's Response
In a follow-up tweet, she shared the response she sent her ex-boyfriend, overwhelmed with emotion.
"Congratulations on your marriage I wish you and your beautiful family nothing but beautiful blessings," she wrote.
Bizarre Behavior
Alexsa's tweet polarized Twitter and a debate ensued among readers. Many users thought it was suspicious that the ex-boyfriend was thinking of his ex the day before his wedding, while others wondered whether he was truly over his ex-girlfriend.
"Bet if you were the [fiancée] you wouldn't think [it was sweet]. If my soon-to-be husband is thinking about his ex the day before our wedding then there is a problem," one user commented.
A Heartfelt Gesture
But not all users had such a negative view of the story. Many viewed the text message as a genuine heartfelt gesture between two emotionally mature people, and regardless of a happy relationship or one riddled with heartbreak, there is something to be learned from them.
"This has got to be the most beautiful thing I've read. Shout out to both of y'all for being such damn good people," one user wrote.
