Bar Had An Incredible Response After Woman’s Drink Was Spiked
It's great to be able to go out for a night have a few drinks and relax, but unfortunately, nightclubs and bars can be dangerous places to be. No matter how well prepared you are, plenty of things can go wrong on a night out.
One Reddit user posed an interesting question about bartending, which led to a user's story about a bar's protocol for spiked drinks.
Bartender Q&A
In the r/AskReddit subreddit, a user asked: "Bartenders of Reddit, what was the weirdest/craziest thing you have overheard while making someone's drink?"
Although not a bartender, Reddit user pinkyfitts responded with an unbelievable story.
Drink Spiking
If your drink has been spiked, it's unlikely that you will see, smell or taste any difference.
This is why if you ever see someone slip something into someone else's drink on a night out, you must report it right away.
A Noisy Night
The user explains that one night, they were sitting at a bar with a few people. It was noisy and crowded when suddenly, a woman approaches the bartender.
"Some girl comes up next to where I was sitting and tells the bartender "excuse me, but I just saw that guy ( customer) right there put something in that girl's drink".
It Started With A Code Word
"I didn't see the guy she pointed to. The bartender turns around and said something, I suspect a code word to somebody."
And then BAM, the entire place is transformed into action.
The Lights Go On
Immediately all the lights go on, and the bar manager immediately steps on stage.
The band stops, and the man makes the following announcement to the crowd in order to handle the situation.
The Announcement
"Attention: We have a report that someone in this room possibly drugged a young lady's drink."
"We request that all women here immediately put down your drink and don't take another sip. We will replace your drink for free."
Addressing The Victim
The bartender also added: "if you are that young lady, we will notify you when you come to the bar. If anyone else is feeling sick or weak please let us know."
The owner also made sure to take caution, knowing that if one woman's drink had been tampered with, it's likely that other patrons' had been.
Not Every Bar Has A Proper Protocol For This Crime
Everything happened so quickly. This made it clear this bar has a protocol in place for this very situation.
When a drink is drugged, it can be difficult to conduct a criminal investigation. This is why it is important to act fast in these situations and to make safety a priority.
The Lights Stayed On
Pinkyfitts finished their story by explaining that the "lights stayed on. Band remained off. For a long time, maybe an hour."
"Cheers from the crowd and nobody complained," they continued. "Don't know what the guy did because I didn’t know which guy it was. That place rocks."
Everyone Was Impressed
Overall, the post received thousands of upvotes and a whole lot of love and appreciation.
"Man if I heard a bar did that, that would be my go-to bar forever," someone commented.
The Bar Was Located in New Orleans
The user claimed that the situation happened in New Orleans a while back, about 10-12 years ago.
And after a lot of prompting, the Reddit user claimed that the place was called Tipitina's.
Some Tips
Sadly, drink spiking is a common fear that people have when going on a night out.
Never leave your drink unattended, buy your own drinks, and watch out for your friends and those around you.
Importance Of Prioritizing The Safety Of People Over Profit
Most bars don't have proper protocols put in place when this crime occurs. In fact, many bars wouldn't be willing to give up that many free drinks.
Wouldn't you like to go to a bar with an ethical code like this?
