However, as one TikTok user points out, there may be hidden cameras watching you. Marcus Hutchins shared where and how to look in your next hotel or Airbnb room for hidden cameras.
Hidden In Plain View
Hutchins, known as @malwaretech on TikTok, says that there is one main point to think about when you're looking to see if a room has any hidden cameras.
You want to look in areas that the person spying on you would want to see.
Looks May Be Deceiving
A popular place where hidden cameras are located is in the bedroom.
His advice is to look for devices that are positioned where a camera could watch you in these rooms.
Smoke Detector Camera
One way to find a suspected camera is to shine a light at the device.
When a light is shined at a camera, the lens will give off a blue reflection as you can see in this smoke alarm.
Hidden Alarm Clock Camera
Another popular location for a camera is inside of a bedside alarm clock.
Shining a light on your alarm clock will also result in you being able to see the location of a camera.
Pinhole Outlet Camera
He says don't end your search at the devices themselves.
The light shining method also revealed this small pinhole camera that was located in the wall charging port of the alarm clock.
Night Vision Camera
The front-facing camera of your phone will also help you located the LEDs of night vision cameras.
The two small dots at the top of the device are the LEDs that the camera uses to see at night.
Night Vision Alarm Clock
Further investigation revealed that the alarm clock also had night vision capability.
The front-facing camera combined with covering up the main screen of the clock reveals a row of LEDs along the bottom.
Analyze Devices In The Room
Marcus says it's important to remember that these cameras can be extremely small and located in just about anything.
So take a closer look at the devices in your hotel or Airbnb next time.
