TikTok Is Divided On This User’s Controversial Video About Body Positivity

Ever since social media became the force that it is now, there has been the body positivity movement. Influencers and users all over our favorite apps have been popping up with a message of self-love and that beauty comes in every size. It's a great thing to see! For too long the beauty standard has only been a very idealized version of one kind of person, so it's encouraging.

But not everyone on social media feels like the body positivity movement is something that they can get behind.

The beginning of the video was a clip from another TikTok user, Lexi Diane, who has a large birthmark on her shoulder and arm.

The video has text where @nottator_tot2000 says that this is what the body positive movement should be.

In the next section of the video, he talks about the body positivity movement should not be about making overweight bodies acceptable.

He thinks that to compare the two things, things people can and can't control, doesn't make sense and isn't fair.

He isn't the first person to point out that he might be overweight and needs to do some work on his health, which he has been doing in the form of eating better and exercising four to five times a week.

On top of commenting about his stomach rolls, he said that stretch marks aren't normal either.

He scrolls through a search results page for "body positivity," pointing out that the front page is just overweight women who could look different if they wanted to.

He thinks that it takes away from the people who should really be speaking about the body positivity movement, like Lexi.

There were people in the comments saying that he was just insecure himself, and it was incredibly apparent throughout the video from how he talked about himself. Maybe he could use some support in the form of body positivity.

Others pointed out that body positivity is simply being comfortable in the skin you're in, even if you know you need to make changes.

Whether or not videos like this are helpful to anyone is up to the person viewing it. But it is worth mentioning that there are a lot of conditions that make it difficult for someone to manage their weight, like thyroid issues and PCOS.

My biggest issue with the video? There is nothing abnormal or shameful about stretch marks. What do you think?
