Ladies, We Are Using Our Dry Shampoo Incorrectly
For any woman who's in a bind and needs to quickly freshen up her hair before venturing outside, it's probably fair to say that dry shampoo has been there for you once or twice before.
Now a video on Instagram is making the rounds and showing that when it comes to one of our favorite hair care products, we're probably applying it the wrong way.
Bad Hair Days
Unless you were blessed were perfect genes (and if so, rude), chances are you struggle with unruly hair. From naturally oily, prone to humidity and frizz, or damaged split ends, it's a never-ending battle to achieve the look that you want.
But one thing is guaranteed: Whether from a high-end salon or your local drugstore, every woman has her own products for maintaining her mane.
Hair Care To The Rescue
If that sounds like you, chances are your shower shelves and bathroom vanity looks more like a hair salon and contain a smorgasbord of various hair care products, such as shampoo, conditioner, hair masks, mousse, or oils.
What about dry shampoo? Is that a must-have for your hair care arsenal?

The Instagram Post
In a recent Instagram post, Rachel breaks out one hair care product that we all probably have in our bathrooms—a canister of dry shampoo. Dispersed via an aerosol can, dry shampoo is a powdery substance that is sprayed onto hair and absorbs oils, without using water.
"Are you making this mistake with your dry shampoo?" she writes.
How We Typically Use Dry Shampoo
Chances are when you use dry shampoo, it's when you haven't washed your hair for a day or two (or longer, no judgment here) and your hair is oily. It's used as a quick and easy method of freshening up and volumizing hair in between washes, and every woman knows it's a lifesaver.
But, Rachel says that our tried-and-true method of using dry shampoo is actually wrong.
How We Should Use Dry Shampoo
Rachel says that to maximize the effectiveness of our dry shampoo, we actually need to be spraying it on our hair after the first wash (but when it's completely dry).
In the short Instagram video, Rachel sprays her hair with dry shampoo in several areas, such as on the crown where her hair parts and underneath a layer of hair.
What Does This Method Do?
Rachel says that preemptively spraying your hair with dry shampoo after it's washed and dried ensures that oils are absorbed as they form, as opposed to covering them up after the fact.
Needless to say, users on Instagram were grateful for the advice.
Here's What Users Think
Users were big fans of Rachel's dry shampoo tip and said they were going to try it out for themselves, while another said they already use this technique, writing, "I've been doing this for years and no one ever believed me when I say I haven’t washed my hair in a week."
