Woman Brings 23 Relatives On Her Blind Date In Order To ‘Test’ Her Date’s Generosity
There's a lot of etiquette surrounding dating dos and don'ts, but one woman in China decided to throw that rulebook out the window and put her blind date to the ultimate test by turning her date into a family affair.
We won't blame that poor guy for probably never wanting to go on a blind date ever again.
Blind Dates
Between blind dates and dating apps, navigating the dating world nowadays can be tricky for anyone. While it's probably not anyone's first choice, sometimes people agree to go on blind dates or on a date with someone that a friend or family member set them up with.
You expect during a blind date that it will only be the two of you. But that's unfortunately not the scene one man was greeted by during his recent blind date.
Meet The Bachelor
According to local media outlet Taizhou Evening News, the bachelor in question is 29-year-old Xiao Liu who hails from the province of Zhejiang. Because of his unstable income and busy work schedule, Liu has never settled down with the right woman.
"His mother was very anxious and asked the matchmaker to find a few blind dates," according to the article.
Meet The Family
Eventually, Liu goes on a blind date with a woman and agreed to pay for the entire meal in order to make a good impression on her.
While the woman graciously accepted his offer, she decided to use this opportunity to put her potential love match to the test.
Table For 25, Please?
While at a restaurant, Liu was suddenly greeted by his blind date and 23 of her close friends and family members.
The woman explains that she did this because she wanted to "test" Liu's generosity and see if he would pay for the entirety of their meal. And you thought The Bachelor was full of unexpected drama.
Time For The Check
By the end of the meal, Liu went to the front desk to pay for dinner, and the bill ended up totaling 19,800 Chinese yuan, or a whopping $3,100 US.
While Liu did originally agree to pay for dinner, he then decided to skip out on the bill due to the extra 23 guests making their blind date feel more like a family reunion than a romantic night out.
Probably Won't Be A Second Date
Eventually, Liu and the woman reached an agreement on who would be responsible for the extravagant dinner. Liu paid for $689 of the bill, while his blind date was on the hook for the other $2,450. According to Taizhou Evening News, social media chats reveal that family members transferred funds to help pay, while other relatives thought Liu's behavior was "disgusting."
We think it's probably fair to say Liu won't be embarking on any more blind dates anytime soon.
