Woman Feeling ‘Sexier Than Ever’ Since Ditching Her Razor And Accepting Her Body Hair
We still live in a culture where it feels like it's wrong or dirty to be a woman and have body hair. We've gone so far down the rabbit hole of accepting this idea about body hair that we spend millions, if not billions, on products to remove our body hair.
Why do we do this? Since when is it not normal for women to have body hair? Something like literally every mammal has on their body?
This Is The Artist Esther Calixte-Bea
She's a 24-year-old artist from Montreal, Canada. In her teenage years, she started to notice that she was growing chest hair. It was something that made her feel deeply uncomfortable and insecure.
She has what is known as hirsutism, or excessive hair growth. It's caused by an increase in hormones called androgens.
She Says She Used To Shave Obsessively
While she was in school, Esther Calixte-Bea says that she would constantly be shaving her body and causing herself a great amount of pain trying to remove the hair from her body.
It took some time, but eventually, she got to the point where it dawned on her that she didn't have to do this. Enough was enough.
She Reflected On Her Family's History
In an interview, she said, "I come from the Wรจ tribe in Ivory Coast, Africa, and the women in my great grandmother's time were very hairy and it was seen as beautiful."
Why couldn't she also celebrate her body the way that it is? Why do we automatically think we need to be hairless?
It's The Best Decision She's Ever Made
After throwing away her razor, she had time to get to know herself again and have a new appreciation for her body in its natural state.
"It is the best thing I have ever done as I feel sexier and comfortable in my own skin," she explained in the same interview.
The Artist Is Tired Of Hiding Who She Is
Even though it took her most of her life to learn to love herself, she's glad she got there. Accepting body hair, something that is literally so normal, shouldn't be going against the norm.
If women weren't supposed to have body hair, we wouldn't grow it! It's as simple as that.
