Woman Shares Her ‘Six-Foot Rule’ When It Comes To Dating
When it comes to dating, it sometimes feels like the wild, wild west. If you've ever used dating apps, you'd also know that some people are really picky.
One woman has gone viral on TikTok for sharing her unconventional dating rule that takes the usual trope of dating men who are six feet or taller and turning it into a points system. Do you think you'll try it?
Dating Preferences
Much how people have their favorite dessert or holiday, everyone has their own preference for what is desirable in a potential lover. Some have preferences that pertain to personality traits, such as a sense of humor or ambition, while other preferences involve physical appearance.
When it comes to appearance, height is a common preference, and for many women, if a man is under six feet tall, they're not interested.
The TikTok
TikTok user @thelittleblondeyogi describes herself as a "yoga teacher, surfer [and] women's advocate" who hails from Seattle. Earlier this year she went viral with nearly 200,000 views for a TikTok that involved dating and what she calls "the six-foot rule."
"So if you're dating, you need this rule," she begins.
The Six-Foot Rule
@thelittleblondeyogi explains that she and her friend came up with this rule when they were dating in Washington, D.C., and the inventory of potential suitors she says was "inconsistent."
When it comes to dating preferences, many women say they will only date a man who's six feet or taller. Rather than dating men specifically for their height, the goal is to get to six feet or over with a points system.
How Does It Work?
Wanting to quell the notion that some women have regarding only dating guys who are at least six feet tall, @thelittleblondeyogi says when dating a guy, start with his initial height. For each positive attribute, such as being "smart," "ambitious," or "kind," for example, you add one inch to his overall score.
"It really helps guys who have redeeming character traits rise to the top," she says.
Additions And Deductions
On the other hand, however, if a guy has certain characteristics that you'd deem as negatives, such as being "an a**hole," "playing too many video games," or "never calling his mom," then @thelittleblondeyogi says you deduct an inch for each negative trait.
Every person has their "ideal" vision of a romantic partner, so the intent is to choose the personality characteristics that matter to you.
Weed Them Out
@thelittleblondeyogi says her dating rule is so women can carefully "weed out" any men who may be six feet or taller and of interest to them based on superficial reasons, but that overall are underachievers, and therefore less romantically desirable.
With over 37,000 likes and hundreds of comments, her dating rule was divisive, and many people on TikTok had varying opinions.
A Pros And Cons List
Some people who viewed @thelittleblondeyogi's TikTok were skeptical and said that her "dating rule" was just a glorified pros and cons list. Other users, however, said that if the baseline is for a man to get to "six feet" worth of points, then men who are naturally taller have to do less work to meet those expectations.
"Girl this is just a pros and cons list..." one user wrote.
Literally Genius
Some users were impressed and curious by the dating rule and said they were going to try it out for themselves, while others actually tested it out on their significant other and were happy to hear that they passed the test.
One user commented that @thelittleblondeyogi's dating rule was, "Literally genius."
