This Dude’s TikTok Went Viral For Cracking The Code On How To Make Friends As An Adult
As adults, it can be hard to make new friends, especially when we're fresh out of high school or college. At this point in life, the people you are around the most are no longer in the same life stage as you.
There are lots of other reasons as to why making friends as we age isn't exactly easy. Our friend circles can seem to grow smaller and smaller. Someone recently posted a TikTok that attempts to answer this classic, age-old question: how can you easily make friends as an adult?
The Mystery Of Making Friends
Some friends grow apart, and others lose touch. The truth is that making new friends as an adult isn't as easy as when we were younger.
But, it turns out that even though it can seem daunting, it's not rocket science. Watch the video below!
Connor's Video
Recently, @connorthemiller made this TikTok video that has now been viewed nearly 6 million times.
He made the video in response to a woman who was asking how you can make friends after high school. Let's go through a few of the different methods that he mentions in the video.
To Put It Plain And Simple—Show Up To Somewhere Regularly
"Show up somewhere regularly. The reason you make friends in high school is because you see the same people every day," Connor explains in his video.
Connor noted that the reason why many of us are able to make friends at work is that we see and converse with the same people every day.
Try Going To The Same Café Every Week
Connor explains that something as simple as going to the same café every week would help.
Maybe you'll continuously exchange smiles with another patron there and decide to sit with them one day.
If You Don't Want To Leave The House
Connor explains that if you don't want to leave the house, you can use the internet in your favor.
He says that he goes to the same Twitch stream every day because he can easily find people who share his interests. "If you are a familiar face in a place where people share your interests, you'll make friends."
The Feedback On His Video Was Positive
Pretty much all of the comments on his video were positive, as the video points out that making friends is all about time and consistency.
Also, if you work out consistently, making friends at the gym is always a good option.
Here's A Hot Take: Friendship Apps
There are also tons of friendship apps out there. I know, they may seem stupid or daunting, but they are worth a shot.
For example, apps like Meetup or Friender allow you to connect with people who share similar interests right away. Suggested matches have at least one favorite activity in common with you.
Parents, Listen Up
If you're a parent, it can be easier to make friends with fellow parents just by volunteering at your kid's school. If your kid is on a soccer team, try to go to lots of the games, and strike up a convo with the person next to you! You never know what might come of a simple conversation.
You don't have to go every time (I know I sure don't), but go enough so you can pick out some familiar faces.
Have No Idea Where To Start? Make A List Of Interests
Sometimes, we have to start at the very beginning to get somewhere. Everyone has different hobbies and passions that they are involved in.
So, making a list of the things you like can help you find different ways to make friends! For example, if you love board games, try finding a games club somewhere near you.
Lots Of People Struggle With This—You Are Not Alone
Even though it may seem like everyone has tons of friends except for you, that is not the case.
According to Barna, the majority of adults have anywhere between two and five close friends (62%), but one in five regularly or often feel lonely.
