Fun Ways To Pass The Time When You’re Alone At Home
Let's be honest: Being at home all alone with nothing to do can seem overwhelming. How often does that ever happen? Maybe you're someone who carves out time to be quiet, maybe you're going through a breakup, or maybe you're stuck at home for reasons beyond your control.
No matter the reason, being home alone doesn't have to be time that's boring and unfulfilling. There's lots you can do to pass the time.
Take A Boozy Bath
Taking a bath is such a nice and relaxing way to pass some time. Dim the lights, light some candles, put on some music, and pour yourself a glass of wine. The wine isn't mandatory, but it's a nice perk.
Don't forget some bathtime necessities: a bath pillow and some bubble bath or a bath bomb.
Finally Read Those Books You've Been Hoarding
Most of us have at least one or two books lying around (if not lots more) that we've been meaning to read but just never got around to. If not books, then I know you've got a million saved articles on Facebook.
Order In And Watch An Old Favorite Movie
Picture it: You're on the couch in your comfiest clothes, you're wrapped up in a blanket, you've ordered a ton of your favourite take-out, and now you're about to play your favorite guilty pleasure movie. Sounds glorious, right?
Try A New Hobby You've Been Interested In
If you've ever wanted to try something new like cooking, baking, knitting, or painting, there is no time better to try those things than when you've got some time to yourself.
Get Dressed Up Just For Fun
Most of us who have Instagram or Pinterest have more than a few makeup or hair tutorials saved up that we want to try. Bust out that makeup, put on your sexiest dress, and get dressed up for yourself. It feels so good.
Do Some Serious Cleaning
No one really likes to clean their home, but it's something that has to be done. If you find yourself with some alone time and nothing to do, make a list of big cleaning jobs you've been putting off and get cracking.
Call Someone You Haven't Talked To In A While
Maybe it's your parents, maybe it's a friend from high school, or maybe it's a cousin you haven't spoken to in a while. Give them a call or FaceTime them—do some reconnecting.
Do Something You Used To Love When You Were A Kid
It can feel good to do something that you used to enjoy as a child. Read a bedtime story you used to love, build a fort then watch a movie in it, or cut the crusts off a pb&j. The nostalgia will hit you like a wave.
Research Something That Interests You
Seen a conspiracy theory on the news that interests you? Want to know more about what's going on in the world, or maybe how special effects work in movies? Alone time is the best time to start digging into that.
Start A Journal
Writing down your thoughts in a journal is super liberating, and it will help you start a routine of self-care that you'll be able to reflect on. It's a big emotional commitment, but it will be one that pays off.
Make Some Plans
We could all be a little better with our money, or think more about our career path, so use your alone-time to start making some goals for yourself and take some real steps to achieve those goals.
Start Working Out
There are lots of great apps now that can be downloaded to do workouts at home. It sounds boring and predictable to hear, but being healthy will help all the other parts of life feel better.
Indulge In A Nap
Is there anything better than taking a nap? Get curled up on the couch or in bed and surround yourself with pillows. Maybe even light some incense and pull the blinds closed and enjoy dozing off.
Discover Some New Music
It can be easy to listen to the same five albums you've listened to since high school, but there is a whole world of music out there. Try listening to the curated playlists that Apple Music and Spotify make for you based on your tastes.
Try A Home Improvement Project
Want to paint your bedroom? Refurbish an old set of drawers? Do it! Head over to your local hardware store and pick up the few things you'd need and get to it!
Learn A New Skill
Having some alone time is the perfect time to learn a language or pick up a new skill or certification you might want to further your career—or just for the heck of it.
Do Things You're Too Embarrassed To Do In Front Of Other People
Lock the door, close the blinds, and let yourself be free! Sing those show tunes off-key, wear an outfit everyone hates, and dance like literally no one is watching. Because they aren't!
Meditate
Turn off your brain for a little while and let yourself just focus on your breathing and inner thoughts. Meditating is a great way to clear your head before journaling.
Write Some Letters
You don't have to send them, but maybe you'd like to! Writing letters to people might be a good way to work through some stress you didn't even know you had!
Honestly, Don't Be Afraid To Do Nothing
If all else fails, don't be afraid to enjoy doing literally nothing. Lie down and stare at the ceiling if you want to! The world, or at the very least your home, is your oyster.
