Ridiculous Struggles All Tall Girls Know Are True
I'm going to try to make this less like the diary entry of a cursed tall girl and more like a hilarious collection of other tall people who are also just rolling with the high punches.
That being said, I have been a 5'11" woman since high school and while most people will tell you that you're "shaped like a model," there is a unique set of challenges that comes with being a literal lady giant. P.S. Extra kudos to the women who are rocking 6 feet plus, I totally respect you and I will always stand beside you in crowds or at events. Let's be friends.
It's Usually The First Thing People Notice About You
Being tall is almost always the first thing people notice about you unless you somehow meet them sitting down, and then the shock hits later when you both stand up.
This tweet pretty much sums up the tall experience.
When You Were Shamed In Public School
This definitely happened to me and I didn't realize other women had also experienced it.
Once, my school's secretary called me to the office and made me do the "shorts test" to see if my fingertips went past the end of my shorts pant leg. Of course, they didn't. I remember bawling to my mom that I had "freakishly long arms" and wouldn't be able to wear true shorts for the rest of the school year.
Shower Heads Are Not Designed For Tall People
The shower is a cold place for a tall person. I will admit that in most short showers I've taken to sitting down to maximize water distribution because I hate being cold.
Most normal tall people just bend their heads and necks uncomfortably and accept the moderate water pressure blasting into their throat, shoulder, or chest area.
Air And Bus Travel Are A Nightmare
One tall Redditor hit the nail on the head saying: "Air and bus travel are terribly unpleasant. I can barely [sit] through a two-hour flight."
They continued to explain: "My height is distributed pretty evenly between my legs and torso, and last year I had a flight where my back was pressed into my seat as far as I could go and my knees still rubbed against the seat in front of me."
Being The "Fastest" Walker In The Group Because Your Stride Covers More Ground
You don't get to be tall without some lengthy limbs, it's just part of the package. One Redditor said that their long legs make walking with groups of people a challenge.
Long legs equal longer strides which means leaving little-legged friends in your dust.
Compared To You, Everything Is A Little Too Short (Even Men)
Twitter user @gueralexia said that her greatest struggle is the most obvious one: being tall in a short woman's world.
"Pants too short, dresses too short, sleeves too short, boys too short." The struggle is indeed real for the vertically gifted, especially when it comes to dating.
Being Taller Than Everyone At The Bar When You Wear Heels
Twitter user @smnthlss said: "#GrowingUpTall debating on wearing heels to town because you'll be taller than most boys in the club or wearing flats to be eye level."
This is even worse if you date men who are your height or shorter, bust out the heels and suddenly you're Gomez and Morticia Addams.
Being Destined To Wear Your Pants As Floods
When you grow up tall you learn to accept early on that you either have to shop at a "Big & Tall" store or get really comfortable with wearing floods and boots that hide your ankles.
Capris in the summer and tall boots in the winter, it's in the Tall Girl Bible. It's also fun when people say they love your crop jeans and you say "thanks they're actually just regular jeans that don't fit me."
Being Told To Eat More
Ugh, this one is huge. A lot of kids who hit their growth spurt early (and never stopped growing) also experience having a high metabolism. Other kids, parents, teachers, friends, and even strangers feel compelled to tell them that they are too skinny and need to eat more.
We don't tell go around telling people to eat less, and it should not be acceptable to tell skinny people to eat more. It's not a compliment.
Being The Designated Top-Shelf Stock-Grabber
For some reason, height gives you this weird authority and people either think that you work in stores or restaurants or they straight-up don't care that you're also a patron and ask you to help them with something.
In my experience, it's always getting something off the top shelf, or being asked where they can find the produce section. I'm always obliged to help somehow.
Hitting The Ceiling Fan When Stretching
Tall people are susceptible to more injuries. I've said it before and I still stand by it.
Stretching, dancing, or just standing up in the wrong spot can spell disaster, especially when there is a rotating ceiling fan. There's a reason we're so good at that stop the fan trend on TikTok.
Mirrors On The Wall Are Great For Looking At Your Collarbones

Sometimes when you're out in a public place and want to touch up your makeup, or just make sure there isn't food in your teeth, you have to lean down over wet sinks and bend to see yourself.
Being A Location Beacon For Your Friends
Twitter user @ginatierneyy knows that with great power comes great responsibility.
Your friends will constantly ask you to "put your hands up" so that they can find your group across a bar or crowd. Sometimes you don't even need to go that far and they can just pick your head out above the crowd.
"You Could Be A Model" Except No I Literally Could Not
People love to tell you that since you're tall you should automatically be a model or a basketball player.
Unfortunately, being tall does not magically transform you into a drop-dead gorgeous model or give you superior athletic abilities. There are clumsy, average-looking tall people. That's all we're saying.
Being The Human Selfie Stick For Group Pictures
When the squad gets together, someone has to be in charge of taking a group selfie.
The role always goes to the person with the longest arms, who is usually also the tallest. Those long arms can stretch to near panorama views to capture the perfect group selfie.
Slouching In All Pictures
Self-conscious tendencies start early for the tall folks. Standing next to your average-sized classmates and friends makes you hyper-aware of your height and usually results in doing something weird with your feet, legs, and posture.
Some of my friends have even started correcting me on it as an adult because I've ruined so many group pictures by doing baby deer legs.
Constantly Hitting Your Head And Limbs
Tall people have to keep their wits about them when navigating low-hanging branches, low ceilings, or hanging light fixtures like chandeliers and ceiling fans.
It's easy enough to forget and stand up too fast or stretch your arms above your head only to smoke them off of something on the ceiling.
Standing Audience Situations Are A Nightmare
It's always awkward as hell to try to figure out where to stand in a crowd because no matter where you pick, someone's going to be annoyed.
At a certain point, you have to decide that you paid the same ticket price to be there and should be able to enjoy the show the same as everyone else. The little 'uns can move if they want to!
Most T-Shirts Are Crop Tops

There are definitely not as many clothing brands that cater to stretched-out people.
