Signs He Wants You To Give Him Some Space
If someone asks you for space or asks you for a break from a relationship, many people's first reaction is going to be that the person wants to break up. Why do you need space apart from someone you want to be with, right?
That isn't always the case though, but because of the implication behind the question, he might be afraid to tell you he needs a break. Here's how you can tell if he's looking for you to give him some space.
He Makes A Lot Of Plans Without You
Obviously, he's is allowed to have his own friends, but you've noticed lately that he's making a lot of plans that don't involve you when they previously would have.
You have mutual friends, but suddenly he's the only one hanging out with them.
He Zones Out During Conversations
You've noticed that he has a tendency to... drift off during conversations. Whether they're considered "important" ones or not doesn't matter.
He's clearly zoning out and not paying attention to you or to what's going on around him.
He Cancels At The Last Minute
You prioritize the plans that you make with him because that's usually what you do for someone you're dating, but he's not doing the same.
He's canceling plans at the last minute, claiming something came up, but that just means he got a better offer.
He's Taking A Lot Longer To Respond
While you may have gotten used to him always answering your text messages right away or talking on the phone whenever you're apart, that's no longer the case.
He's taking longer and longer to answer simple messages and doesn't seem interested in keeping a conversation.
And Sometimes He Even Leaves You On Read
Sometimes you find that he doesn't just take a long time to respond, but he doesn't respond to you at all!
You're not supposed to be consistently left on read by someone you're already dating.
You Seem To Be Getting On Each Other's Nerves More
Much more than you used to, it seems like he picks at everything you say. He's defensive, and you're arguing way more than you ever did before.
If you're getting on their nerves (and he's probably getting on yours), it's good to take a step back.
He's Less Physically Affectionate
You know how he used to be, you know that he was all about PDA or that he loved to cuddle while watching a movie, but not anymore.
The physical indicators might be the first thing that you notice since it's often the most noticeable difference.
He's Never Excited About Dates
He's not really interested in being involved in planning any dates you go on and he never makes plans ahead of time anymore. It's on you to plan everything.
On top of that, he doesn't really seem to be enjoying them while they're happening.
He Avoids Any Serious Conversation About It
So far, if you've tried to bring up the topic at all, he changes the subject or refuses to have the conversation.
He may want space but doesn't know why or doesn't know how to tell you that, so he won't talk about it until he's ready.
He's Hinting At Wanting To Spend Time Alone
You might have chosen to brush off a couple of comments he's made about wanting to spend the night by himself, thinking it was just a one-off.
Give him the chance to actually do that and see how it goes. Maybe a few nights apart is all he needs!
You're Catching Him In Lies
He said that he was spending time with his parents this weekend, but then you spot him in the background of one of his friend's Instagram stories from Saturday night.
There's no need to lie, so why would he? Does he think that you wouldn't be okay with spending time apart?
He's Easily Annoyed With You
Even when you know that you're not doing anything wrong, you somehow still manage to make him upset.
It seems like no matter what you say, he's going to be annoyed and you don't know why.
He Claims Things Are Moving Too Fast
In the beginning stages of a relationship, if he's telling you that things are "moving too fast" or that he wants to "slow it down a bit," that's basically just another way of saying he wants some space.
That's like the universal language for "I need some time to figure out if this is what I want or not."
They've Changed Their Schedule
Maybe he used to be someone who loved to stay up late but now, all of a sudden, he's switched his schedule and goes to bed early or getting up early.
It could be because he's looking for a little time to himself and have a chance to be alone.
Does He Want Space Or Is It Really Over?
As much as you'd like the answer to that question, only he's able to give you that.
Maybe he's just going through something he's not ready to talk about yet and wants to work it out on his own, but then he'll be okay and come back to the relationship. Don't jump to conclusions before you have a reason to.
Remember It's Your Relationship Too
At the same time, make sure you remember that it's your relationship too. It's fine if he wants some space, but he needs to be able to say that.
He can't just push you away and hope that you understand what's going on. You have a right to know what's happening when it affects you and involves you.
