Woman Goes Ahead With First Date Despite Approaching Hurricane
When it comes to first dates, you want them to go perfectly, but sometimes things get in the way — like the weather.
Think your last first date was bad? One woman has gone viral on TikTok for sharing her story of going on a first date despite an impending hurricane. The story has even gotten noticed by musician and TV personality Kelly Clarkson.
When It's Appropriate To Bail Out Of Social Situations
When it comes to going out on dates or getting together with friends, there are some circumstances when it's okay to bail. If you're sick, got into a fender bender on the way, or have to work, no one would think that you're rude for not being able to make it.
So then you'd like to think that an approaching hurricane would be an appropriate excuse to cancel an upcoming date, right?
The TikTok
Cassidy Dangler, also known as @cassidydangler on TikTok, is an NYC-based singer, actor, and dancer, who also describes herself as a "Broad City kinda NYC gal". Everyone knows that New Yorkers are tough, but Cassidy proved it during a now-viral video about a first date. The TikTok has been viewed nearly eight million times.
Cassidy captions her post with, "it's brutal out here".
Hurricane Ida
Our story begins with Cassidy venturing outside wearing a raincoat as she is lashed by fierce wind and rain. She's on her way home from a first date, but there's just one problem — a hurricane is making landfall in New York.
"When you accidentally go on a first date in a hurricane because you felt bad canceling last minute and he wants to go," the caption on the video reads.
Making My Way Downtown (In A Hurricane)
"I'm cold, I'm soaked, [but] I just had to document this," she says. "You got to be kidding me!"
Hurricane Ida was a powerful category-four storm that struck the Caribbean and then Louisiana in late August of 2021. In early September, Hurricane Ida was downgraded and its remnants struck the northeastern US with ferocity — as Cassidy witnessed firsthand.
Finding Love In A Hopeless Place
During the video, Cassidy says she had actually already gone on the first date and was heading home. But, unlike the weather, it was a rather lackluster experience. She explains that her date lived 10 blocks away while she lived 80, and after all that, the date only lasted one hour.
"I'm just saying if I can't find love with this kind of effort I put in, who will?" she asks.
Soaking Wet (And Not In A Good Way)
She explains that while the pair were outside during their date and watching the storm, he admits that he should have postponed their date. The latter half of the video depicts Cassidy riding the subway, walking outside in the rain, and pouring water out of her soaked boots.
"No man on Earth has ever made a woman this wet," she jokes.
A Score Of...0/10
Cassidy says this experience has proven whether she's a Sex And The City-type of New York girl or a Broad City New York girl, and jokes that we can probably guess which one she is.
Back at home, Cassidy says, "0 out of 10. Do not recommend going on a date in a tornado/hurricane. And we're back on the couch, which is where I wanted to be the whole night."
The Follow-Up TikTok
In a follow-up video, Cassidy explains what exactly happened during her date and why she's definitely not going on a second one.
She says that, first and foremost, had she known about the approaching inclement weather, she would've canceled beforehand. Her date didn't consist of drinks and dinner, but indoor rock climbing.
A Go Or No Go Decision
Because it has been raining off and on all day, Cassidy was reluctant to go on the date, and her date said he was okay with either going ahead with plans or postponing. Later that day the weather had improved, so she decided to go ahead.
"But I was like, 'I'm excited to rock climb. I'm gonna have fun at least rock climbing even if he's a dud' - which he was."
How About A Night Cap?
As the pair left the gym, the man asked Cassidy if she wanted to grab a drink. Due to the very obvious hurricane engulfing them, she declined and decided to head home.
"Let me be clear: no man would ever like convince me to do something that I don't want to do," she says. "I literally just thought that I saw him, but it was just someone that looks like him."
So Is He Getting A Second Date?
In response to the many people wondering if Cassidy is going on a second date with him, she simply replied "Hell no". In fact, she says that she went on a much better date with a different man.
Cassidy jokes that she's good on hurricane dates for now, but adds that she has no regrets because she "got a really good story out of it."
The Kelly Clarkson Show
In a final update, Cassidy shares that her TikTok about dating in New York City went so viral that it got her an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Cassidy stands by her earlier remark that dating in New York is absolutely ridiculous but jokingly reveals during the show that her hurricane date from hell only cracks the top three on her list of bad dates.
