Woman Receives $4 Repayment Request From Hinge Date After Things Went South

There is a lot of faux pas involved when it comes to first dates. But perhaps no etiquette is as nuanced as the issue of money.

Have you ever had a date so bad that your date sent you a bill after the fact? One woman did, and now she's sharing her story on TikTok.

When it comes to who covers the bill on a coffee date to who pays for the pizzas on football Sunday, there's a lot of etiquettes involved with it comes to social get-togethers and money.

It's still an ongoing debate regarding who should pay when it comes to first dates, but if a man offers to pay and the date ends up going nowhere, you think that'd be the end of it, right?

The main TikTok is only seven seconds long, but Katlyn tells the story over the course of three videos.

It begins with her posing (and laughing) with a text message from a man whom she'd met on Hinge and had gone on a date with. In the text, the date sends Katlyn an Apple Pay request for $4. So what lead up to this bizarre request?

Katlyn later explains that she and her date met on Hinge and went out for coffee. Her date offered to pay for her coffee, and Katlyn accepted. After the date, the man wanted to see her again, but due to her hectic schedule, she couldn't find a day to schedule a second date.

Afterward, that is when Katlyn woke up one morning to the $4 Apple Pay request.

Following the repayment request, the man then explains his reasoning.

He writes that because it seems their relationship isn't going anywhere past the first date and that he's frustrated with the mind "games" that Katlyn is playing, he wants a full refund for the medium-sized coffee he'd purchased for her.

The Response

In a lengthy response, Katlyn explains what she really thinks of her Hinge date. Being a full-time student, a full-time hospital employee, and responsible for caring for her sick mother, Katlyn tells him where her priorities really lie.

"I will absolutely not apologize for putting my education and family before anyone else," she writes. "I'm sorry that the lack of my presence has hurt your ego so bad that you felt the need to request $4 for a coffee."

The Response: Part Two

In the second half of the text message, Katlyn says that if $4 is really that big of a deal, she'd be happy to repay him. She chastises him for not being accommodating with her busy schedule and writes that his lack of communication and empathy has solidified that she's not interested in a second date.

She ends the text with, "Thank you and have a blessed weekend".

But Wait, There's More

"So basically this is the reason I will end up alone and never get married - because all men are trash," Katlyn says before ending the video.

But that's not quite where our story ends. In the third and final video, Katlyn reveals that her date did respond back to her text, but that she chose not to respond herself because she "didn't think it was worth it."

The Final Text

Katlyn's date sends her a text back that accuses her of being the person who wanted to hang out again, and that if she truly wasn't interested in a second date, she should have said she didn't have the time "instead of leading someone down a false path".

She then says that the part where he claimed that she was the person who asked five separate times to hang out was "made up".

The End

Katlyn clarifies that she did want to hang out, but that week, in particular, did not work and she wanted to wait until things were less hectic, saying "I didn't think I had to see somebody every week". She adds that this part apparently fell on her dates' deaf ears.

"But don't worry, I’m sure another man will disappoint me again soon," she wrote in her post caption.
