Nowadays, it's almost impossible to go on a date without having at least seen a picture of the person you're meeting. Social media and dating profiles have taken away the mystery of a true "blind date," but a new Netflix dating show is bringing back the idea in an extreme way.

Netflix recently announced a new reality-style dating show that will show contestants going on blind dates while wearing elaborate costume prosthetics and makeup.
The announcement revealed the show will be called "Sexy Beasts" and says that the in-costume dates will "put true blind-date chemistry to the test."
"Sexy Beasts" Wants To Know: How Much Do Looks Really Matter?
It's a question that has been asked over and over again: Do looks matter when it comes to love? Some argue yes while others will tell you that they are more attracted to someone's personality than their physical characteristics.
"Sexy Beasts" wants to test that theory by having people wear intricate masks and costumes to determine whether personality alone is enough to make people fall in love.
The Trailer Gives Us More Questions Than Answers
The one-minute trailer was shared on Twitter where people did not hold back their reactions, which ranged from absolutely horrified to intrigued.
In the clip, different contestants can be seen in heavy makeup and costume, including a beaver, scarecrow, dolphin, alien, panda bear, devil-woman, fox, and more.
How Exactly Will The Show Work?
Each episode will feature a real-life single person searching for love based entirely on personality. He or she will go on dates with three potential love candidates—while each person wears full Hollywood-level prosthetic makeup.
The single person only sees the face of their chosen match after making their final decision, supposedly based on personality alone.
The Show Will Feature People On Normal Dates While Dressed In Their Costumes
Aside from the outrageous costumes that only reveal a person's eyes, the actual date activities seem fairly normal. That is to say, they're not exactly "The Bachelor" level of extravagance.
Dates showcased in the clip include dinner in a public restaurant, drinks at a bar, ax throwing, bowling, riding rollercoasters, and disc shooting.
"Sexy Beasts" Is A Hybrid Of "The Masked Singer" And "Love Is Blind"
In a follow-up tweet, Netflix said that the new show was going to be a hybrid of two popular reality TV shows that already exist: "The Masked Singer" and "Love Is Blind."
"The Masked Singer" has been massively popular, following mystery celebrities wearing large, detailed costumes in a singing competition. A panel of judges attempts to guess the secret identities beneath the masks. In comparison, "Love Is Blind" has single contestants go through a series of "speed dates" from inside pods that keep their appearances hidden. At the end of the dating rounds, the man decides which woman he wants to propose to, and they only meet face-to-face after the proposal.
Netflix Has Already Ordered Two Seasons Of The Show
The streaming giant predicts that there will be a large audience reaction to the show with a demand to keep the episodes coming.
As a result, Netflix has already ordered two seasons of the show, which is actually based on a U.K. series.
The Show Will Be Released On July 21, 2021, And Narrated By Rob Delaney
The show will be narrated by actor and comedian Rob Delaney.
Netflix announced the first installment of the six-part season will be released on July 21, 2021, with the second season of six more episodes due out sometime later this year.
48 Unique Character Designs Were Created For The Show
Variety reported that 48 unique makeup designs were created for the show's first two seasons.
Each design was created specifically for the show by leading special FX prosthetic artist Kristyan Mallett. His professional resume includes work on films like "Mission Impossible" and “The Theory of Everything,” but now he can add "Sexy Beasts" to that list.
