Is This New Dating App That’s Only Active One Day A Week Bringing Excitement Back To Online Dating?
I'm going to say what everyone is thinking. Online dating has become super repetitive and boring. I waste so much time talking to potential matches who I never even meet up with. Just as I was about to swear off dating apps (and men) for life, I saw a tweet about Thursday—an elusive, creative new dating platform.
The app is live only one time per week, and encourages users to meet up with one another before your matches, chats, and messages expire on Thursday at midnight. If you want to bring the spark and excitement back to online dating, Thursday may just be right up your alley.
Is Anyone Else Tired Of Online Dating?
To be honest, I feel like we've all spent far too many hours swiping for matches and chatting with randoms on dating apps.
And for what? Oftentimes, I never end up meeting up with most of the people I talk to, and keeping up a conversation online just ends up stressing me out at the end of the day. I have officially deleted both Tinder and Bumble from my phone, and have sworn off dating apps. That is until I recently heard some friends of mine chatting about the elusive, exciting new dating app: Thursday.
This App Is Only Available One Day Per Week
As its name suggests, the app is only active for one day a week: Thursday. What does this mean? Well, dating apps will no longer take over your life. Because if you really like someone, why spend weeks chatting with them online?
Instead of spending each night wistfully swiping on Tinder or related sites, you can speak with a bunch of matches on one fatal night.
Thursday Speaks Nothing But The Truth
Can Thursday say this message louder for the people in the back? Regular online dating is so mundane, repetitive, and boring, and I'm so over it at this point.
Not only is the one day a week feature on Thursday intended to accelerate the "talking stage," it helps people actually want to meet up. This is because all messages and matches delete at midnight. Overall, Thursday is a dating app for people who are fed up with chatting for weeks on end with no IRL meetups. This also weeds out people who only use dating apps for compliments and attention to feel better about themselves.
Free Up Your Thursday Nights
So, according to the founders (two men from London), users are encouraged only to use the app on a Thursday if they are free later on for a date.
According to them: "This accelerates the rate at which matches are made, conversations are had, and dates are actually organized."
This App Is Different From Other Dating Platforms
Sasha, I agree. Online dating is filled with so many pointless conversations.
But, "The adrenaline and anticipation associated with making Thursdays your day to date, knowing thousands of other people are thinking the same thing, makes this irresistible," they claim. They are on a quest to bring back refreshing, spontaneous dating.
Where Can I Sign Up?
According to the company's website, Version 1 of the app is only live in London and New York as of right now. Due to server troubles, the app hasn't launched anywhere else quite yet.
Yet, it's apparently set to launch in other countries soon. I don't know about you guys, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the day that I can download this app and meet some cuties on Thursdays.
Safety Features
"We hope women will take comfort in our verification requirement; everyone who uses the app must verify their identity using a government-issued driving licence or passport. This means we will know exactly who is using the app at all times."
A member will be banned from using the app after just one person reports them. The app is also location-based, but a full location is never revealed, meaning you can feel safe in knowing prospective dates won't ever know where you live.
The Beauty Of In-Person Dating
In person, you can properly get to know someone and get a sense of whether there's actually chemistry. The founders of Thursday acknowledge that going on a date the very day you meet someone online takes a lot of confidence, but it's worth it to get to know someone IRL as opposed to chatting for weeks.
Once COVID-19 restrictions ease, Thursday plans to hold large singles events for its users.
Not Everyone Likes This Idea...
Even though there's a lot of hype about this app, turns out, the idea that you have to upload a piece of ID to be able to use it doesn't sit right with people.
App developers responded to complaints similar to this one and explained that user data is safe, and verification data (ID info) "will be deleted in 30 days time from when you sign up on the app."
Want More Info?
If you're still interested in this app like I am, you can find out more and check for updates by following @thursdaydating on Instagram.
Make sure to look at their Instagram stories in order to see when they're launching in your area. But if you're not feeling Thursday, keep scrolling for some more interesting dating apps to tickle your fancy.
If Thursday Sounds Interesting To You, You Should Try "Once"
Instead of an unending string of photos to sort through, Once pairs you up with one potential partner per day. You've got 24 hours to make a connection.
On Once, you can keep chatting if you feel like there is a connection, but the general idea of the app is to focus on just one person at a time. This way, instead of talking to so many people at "once" (now I get it), you can see if a more lasting connection is possible.
Let Me Tell You About Coffee Meets Bagel
Coffee Meets Bagel is a dating app that gives you matches every day at noon. Sayonara, swiping!
According to the website, the app allows you to "receive quality matches curated just for you by our ever-evolving algorithm."
Hinge—For Something Serious
Hinge puts its focus on relationships and interesting conversations. Rather than using swipes, Hinge makes you complete a more detailed profile that you fill in with pictures and stories. Users can then choose to like and comment on something in a potential match's profile, and that serves as a mutual conversation starter.
Each day, a user can check out new recommendations, and you can also see people who have liked something in your profile.
XO
Quizzes, drawing games, and other party activities let you share a laugh with somebody new on XO. Overall, the app seems like a fun, casual way to make new friends. And who knows? A friendship can always blossom into something more...
You find matches by filling out a profile and meeting up with someone who has similar likes. There are also two other options for the more adventurous folks out there. The "Blind Date" function puts you in touch with someone to play a game and exchange messages before you see their profiles. "Random" puts you in touch with a random user on the app—who lives anywhere in the world. Neat, huh?
