Man Accidentally Proposes While He’s Sedated And Might Have Regrets
Some people spend their whole lives dreaming of the moment they will get engaged to be married, right up until the second it happens.
Other times it happens out of the blue and the whole proposal can be quite unexpected.
The Unusual Engagement Went Down In A Hospital Room
One man described his unusual engagement that took place in a hospital room, in front of his parents, while he was sedated.
He shared his experience in a popular thread called "Today, I f-ed up" and the post quickly went viral.
"I Accidentally Proposed To My Girlfriend..."
The post begins with the title "I accidentally proposed to my girlfriend waking up from appendix surgery."
How does one "accidentally" propose you might ask? It takes a perfect storm in a way.
He Needed An Emergency Appendectomy
The man who wrote the post said that he works in the medical field so when he began experiencing severe pain in his lower abdomen he knew that he was going to have "an expensive day."
He rushed to the hospital and was told he would need emergency surgery to have his appendix removed.
His Parents And Girlfriend Rushed To The Hospital
After being admitted to the hospital, his parents and girlfriend arrived and were by his side as he headed to the operating room.
When he woke up in recovery they were all there waiting for him.
The Anesthesia Ended Up Having A Longer Effect Than Expected
He continues to explain that even though he knew it was common for people in their early 30s to "say some crazy things" under the effects of anesthesia, he never realized how crazy.
Or that it was going to be crazy enough to affect his life.
He Blurted Out That He Wanted To Marry His Girlfriend While He Was High On Anesthetics
"When I started coming to, the drugs/anesthesia affected my judgment and I made a life-altering decision. I looked at my girlfriend, pointed to her instead, "I WANT TO MARRY YOU!" right in front of both of my parents."
Needless to say, everyone was shocked for a moment.
The Parents Said He Must Be Serious And They All Celebrated
The shocked girlfriend asked the man's parents whether he was serious or if it was just the drugs talking.
"They reassured her that I was serious because I had mentioned marriage to them in the past." Excitedly, she exclaimed, "Of course I will!" And the parents said welcome to the family. Then they all began hugging.
He Bought A Ring And They Started Wedding Planning
After he recovered he went out and purchased an engagement ring for his girlfriend and they began planning the wedding.
He finishes the post by saying "I guess the moral of the story is, sometimes it takes having less guts to do something?" Looking back he doesn't think it was a screwup, but he did call it an "unexpected surprise."
