Man Accuses Date Of Being Stingy With The Check After She Accuses Him Of Ghosting
Between new dating terms and online apps, modern dating is a far cry from what our parents experienced.
After a woman told a man she'd gone on a date with that she was upset he later ghosted her, he turned the tables and accused her of flaking on the check. Now, she's taken to TikTok to set the record straight—and she's got text messages to prove it.
Modern Dating
Let's be real, between being totally ghosted or debating who should pay the bill when on a date, there are a lot of nuances when it comes to modern dating.
So how about if you combined both of those dating faux pas? It happened to one woman, and now she's sharing her story on TikTok.
The TikTok
Nik, also known as @__nikk1 on TikTok, recently went viral for sharing the texts exchanged between her and a failed flame. Confronted by false accusations for why their romance burned out, she decided to fight fire with fire. The video has received 1.5 million views and 150,000 likes.
She captioned the TikTok post with, "[and] this is why dating is miserable."
A Love Match
Nik matched with a man named Josh on a dating app and "hit it off." They eventually decide to go on a date, so Josh picks a restaurant and the couple goes to dinner. Afterward, they walk around town and Nik buys herself an ice cream (which she purchased—a detail that's important for later).
Wanting to keep chatting and get out of the cold, the pair go into another restaurant for a few drinks.
See You Next Sunday?
The date occurred on a Sunday and after it ended, Josh texts Nik about wanting to get together again before he leaves for a work trip on Wednesday.
Unable to find a time that works, the pair decide to go on another date after he comes home, which lands on the following Sunday. But then Nik starts to notice some odd behavior.
Missing In Action
Nik says that Josh departed for his work trip to L.A. on Wednesday and "completely disappears." She understood that he was working, but was put off by his lack of communication.
By Friday, Nik decides to text him and see if he's still interested in a Sunday date, but he never responds to it. She then figures, "I never expected to hear from him again."
It's A Christmas Miracle
The day of what should've been their second date comes and goes. But come Christmas, Nik finally receives a text back from Josh after eight days of silence.
He apologizes for being "rude" and how he didn't want Nik to think he was "ghosting" her and even then sends her a photo of his Christmas tree. But, Nik definitely isn't in the holly jolly mood.
Ghosting
Annoyed with his "half-a**ed apology," Nik remains polite but asks whether Josh is going to just pretend him bailing on their Sunday date never happened. She says she understands that life often just gets in the way, but he could've made an effort to inform her plans had changed.
"You could've at least just communicated with me instead of leaving me in the dark," she writes.
True Colors
Josh then claims that he bailed on their Sunday date and didn't respond due to an emergency trip to New Orleans. All of a sudden, his tone takes a dramatic turn.
He accuses Nik of flaking on the check during their dinner date a couple of weeks before, writing that she went to go use the bathroom when the check arrived instead of offering to split it.
Accusations Inbound
"I hate it when girls do that," he writes. "It's incredibly rude and cheap...and really disrespectful and I felt like you really didn't care."
He then says that he'd try giving her a second chance for a date, but could tell by her demeanor that she wasn't interested. Josh then wishes Nik a Merry Christmas.
Fight Fire With Fire
After the accusations and multiple inconsistencies, Nik fires back and says she actually went to go use the bathroom after finishing dinner but before the check arrived. She apologizes for the miscommunication and wishes he could've made the issue known earlier.
"I personally think it's very telling of who you are that that's how you view me when it genuinely was not intentional."
A Trust Fund Baby
In Josh's final texts, he writes that Nik picked the restaurant and also never offered to pay. He explains that what he really wants in a woman is someone who'll want to pay for dates (or at least offer) and not just assume he'll do it.
"Just because I have a f***ing trust fund doesn't [mean] I like using it to cover other girls' drinks," he writes.
Firing Back
Josh then texts her that he's said his piece and that Nik doesn't need to respond back, and while she doesn't do so over text, she definitely does in her TikToks.
"Of course I ordered what I liked, because what am I going to do? Order something I don't like? And honestly, he's just...ridiculous. He's talking about a trust fund—how do I know that you have a trust fund?"
Setting The Record Straight
Nik then posts a follow-up TikTok to set the record straight and point out Josh's numerous lies. Firstly, she shares a text message proving Josh picked the restaurant—which he accused her of doing.
In response to the accusation that she didn't pay for anything, Nik points out she did not order an expensive entree and that she paid for her ice cream, plus offered to pay if Josh wanted something.
Money Insecurities
Before ending the TikTok, Nik says that Josh's desire to give her another try despite her apparent "red flags" is a red flag unto itself.
"I don't know that you have a trust fund. Like, I don't know that information about you, and clearly, you're insecure about it," Nik says. "This man has some serious red flag money issues."
