Man Asks Woman To Refund Him Her Half Of Their Date Costs After Things Didn’t Work Out
Today, splitting the bill after a date is nothing new. However, something that you probably haven’t heard about is someone asking for money after a few dates when you both agree to stop seeing one another.
Alex Colboth from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, received a text from a guy she had been seeing that shocked her.
Dating Can Be Expensive
Going on dates can be super pricey, especially if your date has expensive taste and brings you somewhere fancy.
Take a second to think about all of the hard-earned moola that you've spent just on dates with someone you are no longer with.
But You Can Always Split The Bill
It's 2021, which means that it's pretty common to just split the bill on the first few dates with someone.
Even though it used to be a tradition for the man to pay for all the dates, there's no shame in asking to split the bill after dinner. But, maybe don't ask a girl for a refund after you've gone out a few times because Twitter will probably roast your a**.
One Woman Shared How A Guy Asked Her For A Refund
Recently, Alex Colboth shared an image on Twitter that went viral. It was a text conversation between her and a guy she had been seeing.
When she said she didn't want to see him anymore after three dates, this guy asked for reimbursement for the dates they'd been on.
"What's Your Venmo?"
Above is the pic that Alex shared via Twitter. As you can see, this guy wants her to send him $35.
Alex's date says that he paid for her on their outings, and he'd like reimbursement for some of the expenses of her food and drinks.
The Tweet Started A Debate In The Comments
Even though it is a bit of a strange request, it seems like the guy was nice about it. But, the whole situation just feels a little bit unsettling.
People had lots of opinions on the situation, so let's get into some of the replies.
Some Thought It Was Such A Gross Request
Some people were outraged that the guy decided to ask her for money. Many criticized his word choice and interpreted his texts as: "I want reimbursement for a situation that no longer brings me value."
Generally, many Twitter users pointed out that the man was being unreasonable because he refused to accept the fact that dating is a risk. He also willingly paid for her food and drinks, and probably didn't ask her to split the bill.
Others Thought It Was Fair
Some people found no issues with the man's request for the $35, especially because the total of her drinks and food over three separate occasions was probably more than that.
One user said: "If I could take back all the money I spent on people who left, I would."
"The Issue Isn't Asking For Payment—The Issue Is He Waited"
Asking to split the bill on a date is a very valid request. Yet, this guy requested money AFTER the fact, and after the two had been seeing one another for a MONTH.
This shows that he only wanted to pay for her because he wanted something in return.
Dating Is Like Gambling, Sometimes You Win And Sometimes You Lose
And to end things off with a bang, this was my personal favorite response. One woman explained that dating is like gambling, and sometimes things don't work out.
Even though you put money into it, you lost, and the casino doesn't owe you anything.
Alex Is Unbothered
Alex later gave her Twitter followers an update. Turns out, she didn't reimburse the man after his Venmo request.
And clearly, she feels like she made the right decision for herself.
