Man Takes $1 Away From Fiancée’s Annual Gift Every Time She Yells At Him, Sparking Debate
When it comes to birthdays, Valentine's, or Christmas, people usually create a budget to use on buying a gift for the people they love. But how do you go about determining how much money to put away?
Starting with $360, one man on TikTok put his fiancée to the test and the results of his social experiment have gone viral.
The TikTok
Issac Ramirez, also known as @iisaac.ramirezz on TikTok, is a 24-year-old digital content creator and is newly engaged. He recently went viral for how he handled the issue of budgeting and buying gifts for his fiancé, and the video has been viewed 11.7 million times.
He captioned his post, "Now all she's getting is flowers and chocolates".
A Valentine's Day Gift
Issac begins the TikTok by holding an envelope that is filled with cash. A caption on the video explains that over the course of the previous year, he had put away $360 in an envelope to spend on his fiancée's Valentine's Day gift.
But, when it comes to her gift, there is a catch.
Here's The Catch
When it came to her present, there was a caveat. Every day she yelled at him prior to Valentine's Day, Issac removed $1 from her gift fund.
The pile started off with $360, but that's not what remained when it came time to actually buy her a present. Hopefully, she didn't want diamonds this February 14.
Treat Yourself Like A King
In a separate envelope, Issac has tucked away all the cash he removed from his fiancé's gift allowance over the previous year. Inside the second envelope is money Issac plans to use on himself, even writing "Treat yourself king" on the envelope.
"Now her gift limit is $40 and I saved myself $320".
Turning The Tables Around
While it's not yet known how Issac's fiancé reacted to her Valentine's Day surprise or his now-viral TikTok, thousands of users had a lot to say about his social experiment, and important points were made on all sides.
For instance, many users asked Issac to turn the social experiment around and that every time she did something nice for Issac, to add money to her gift allotment.

In a follow-up video, Issac does just that and illustrates what happened when he decided to add to his fiancé's gift allowance every time she did something nice for him.
He says that she did his laundry the day before, but because she still yelled at him that day, her total dropped down to a total of $39.50.
Who's Telling The Truth?
However, many users pointed out a flaw in Issac's plan. They said that if it was appropriate to take money away every time his fiancé yelled at him, then it's only fair that he puts cash back into the pile for every instance where her yelling was justified, whereas others added that yelling is never okay.
One user meanwhile was skeptical and said there are two sides to every story.
You Shouldn't Have Put A Ring On It
Many users however were shocked by the fact that Issac's fiancé yelled at him 320 days out of an entire year and noted how he's in a toxic relationship. They said it's a form of emotional abuse and that Issac should leave his fiancé.
"Normalize women also being the abusive ones in relationships...Because I've seen this way too often. You deserve better," one user commented.
Possible Gender Bias
Some people added that had the roles been reversed and it was his fiancé doing this experiment instead, people would be on her side and think she's a "queen".
Therefore, many users did support Issac and saw nothing wrong with what he did. They believed that if a woman who does something similar is seen as an empowered "queen", then Issac also needs to know his worth as a man.
A Tried And True Method
The comments were also filled with users who tagged their significant others in it, potentially joking or being serious that they were going to attempt this gift allowance method on them in the future and see if it works.
One user commented that he actually tried a similar method before, and in the end, he says it led to a happy marriage.
