So when one man wanted his girlfriend's permission to cheat on her for his 18th birthday, he recruited mom for help, and now, the girlfriend is sharing the details on TikTok.
A Trip To The Nightclub
For many people in the U.S., turning 21 years old is a big deal. It marks you officially becoming an adult (yay responsibilities!) and when you can legally drink alcohol. It's not surprising then that when most people come of age, they want to hit the clubs and celebrate.
But one man wanted to make his first trip to a nightclub extra special, and he even commissioned his mother to help make his dreams come true.
The TikTok
Chantel is a 23-year-old woman from Australia, and on TikTok, she's known as @chronicallychill. She recently went viral for her two-part series detailing how her ex-boyfriend wanted to celebrate his 18th birthday. The TikTok has received 1.7 million views and over 345,000 likes.
In the video, she lip syncs to a song and says, "And I think to myself...what the f**k?"
Fond Memories
Chantel's TikTok video is short, but a brief caption sheds light on what happened.
The caption reads, "remembering how my ex took me out to dinner with his mum so they could both try to convince me to let him cheat on me for his birthday." What the fudge, indeed.
The Ex-Boyfriend
After the first video went viral, Chantel later posted a follow-up to explain what actually led up to this jaw-dropping mother-son request.
Even though Chantel and her ex-boyfriend only dated for three months, she has "a lifetime's worth of stories." The story begins with her then-boyfriend, who as a child was taken away from his mother by child protective services. Not surprisingly, he didn't want to talk to Chantel about it, which she understood.
A Dinner Date
Years later, Chantel's then-boyfriend and his mom attempt to reconnect and salvage their relationship. The trio eventually goes out to dinner together, and Chantel expresses her support of him reconnecting with his mom.
During dinner, he and his mom begin discussing how his 18th birthday is coming up. They live in Australia where the drinking age is 18, so he tells Chantel how much he wants to go to a nightclub to celebrate.
Making Birthday Plans
Chantel gives her then-boyfriend's birthday plans her blessing and she says that she hopes his first time at a nightclub will be fun. Now, this is where the mom unexpectedly chimes in.
"He and his mom had obviously spoken about this before because they were very much on the same page, and they were like, 'Well, he wants to have like, the full club experience.'"
Birthday Wishes
Confused, Chantel asks him and his mom what the "full club experience" means. They reply that the "full club experience" means hooking up with girls and taking them home. Shocked, Chantel thinks that he's breaking up with her right there in front of his mom.
"He wasn't breaking up with me," Chantel says, "he just wanted my permission to cheat on me at the clubs."
Shocked Reactions
Not surprisingly, Chantel tells her then-boyfriend and his mom that she's not okay with the proposal saying, "Strangely enough, I don't want him to cheat on me at the clubs." The duo meanwhile is baffled by Chantel's obvious reaction.
They then offer Chantel a compromise, which goes about as well as you can expect.
Compromises
In their compromise, they propose that he is only allowed to cheat on Chantel at the clubs on his actual birthday and nothing more. Chantel once again declines while the mother-son duo is shocked by her refusal and inability to give him his desired birthday present.
"He was annoyed at me when we went home because I'd embarrassed him in front of his mom."
Time For A Plot Twist
But that's not where our story ends. Chantel then reveals one more surprise twist and I'll just say I can't imagine why this happy couple is no longer together (end sarcasm).
"I do want you to know, he was already cheating on me," she says. "Like a lot. And he continued to cheat on me after this. So I don't know why he was so set on getting my permission about the clubs. But, I don't understand men."
