Woman Sparks Debate After She Stiffs Her Server Of A Tip After He Ghosted Her
Whether it's a friend or a romantic interest, no one ever wants to be on the receiving end of being ghosted. Either way, you expect to never see them again.
So then what happens when you accidentally stumble upon them in public? This happened to one woman while out at a restaurant, and how she handled the situation is sparking a debate on TikTok.
So You Just Got Ghosted
From breadcrumbing" to "love bombing" and "zombie-ing", there are a lot of dating terms that today's bachelor and bachelorettes have to navigate. But perhaps no term is as well-known as "ghosting", AKA when someone suddenly drops all communication with you for no reason.
So how would you react if you went out to lunch one day and your server was the man who had ghosted you?
The TikTok
Sydney, also known as @princessneeyyneeyy on TikTok, recently went viral for a video that combines ghosting and another hot topic — tipping etiquette. The video has so far received nearly 300,000 views on the video-sharing platform.
She captions her post with "Sorry, Matt".
A $0 Tip
The TikTok itself is only five seconds long and it begins with Sydney holding a receipt after going out to lunch at a Texas Roadhouse restaurant. The total amount for the meal came to $33.53, but where a tip amount should be written, Sydney has instead written "0".
"When the guy who ghosted you is your waiter at lunch," the caption on the video reads.
"Don't Come For Me"
Sydney then shows off the bottom half of the receipt. She has written, "PS: Thanks for blocking me on Snap", and adds a smiley face and heart. In the comments, she elaborates that she and Matt actually used to work together and planned to hang out when he unexpectedly blocked her.
"Don't come for me," the caption on the video says. "I usually tip but I'm petty".
Matt Deserved It
Dating and tipping etiquette are hot topics, and this TikTok was no different. Users soon flooded the comment section and a variety of opinions were offered regarding who was in the wrong in this situation.
Some people expressed satisfaction with Sydney's decision and "pettiness" and said that Matt deserved it for blocking her. Other people even commented how things like this always involve "a guy named Matt".
Ask For A Different Server
Other people said that instead of acting "petty", Sydney should have instead been the bigger person in this situation and simply asked for a new server.
Some users said that Sydney giving a good tip would have instead shown Matt what he missed out on.
Not Tipping Is Inexcusable
Many other users said that Sydney should have still tipped Matt despite the fact that he ghosted her because ultimately, this kind of decision directly impacts his livelihood.
"Should've tipped and confronted him face to face instead of making it harder for him to pay rent," one user wrote.
Unattractive Behavior
Many users were disgusted with the immature behavior and said it's no surprise that Matt ended up blocking her. Another user took things a step further and said had the roles been reversed and it was a man who'd done this to a woman server, there would be a ton of outrage.
"Ewwww, this isn't a flex. No wonder he ghosted you," one user wrote.
A Surprise Twist
In a follow-up TikTok, Sydney sets the record straight regarding her viral video and defends herself against body shammers who subsequently attacked her on social media.
Firstly, she reveals that she and Matt are actually on good terms. The TikTok was never meant to be serious and was just for fun, she adds.
In Closing
Sydney says that due to her prior experience in the service industry, she did end up tipping Matt, adding, "I would never not tip somebody." In fact, Matt later commented and admitted that the video was in good fun and that she did send him a $10 tip.
"I just wanted to defend my side of it because I'm not this evil f***ing person that everyone's trying to make me out to be," Sydney says.
