Woman’s Twitter Thread Highlights Why Men Should Keep Their Unsolicited Opinions To Themselves
Some men can't help but insert themselves into a woman's business even if she is a total stranger to them.
It happens both in public and on social media, and every now and then an incident that happened in public ends up on social media. That situation opens the debate to thousands of more opinions, some of them welcome and some not.
A Woman Tweeted About Her Experience
A woman named Amy tweeted about her morning commute experience on the train.
She shared that a random man approached her while she was doing her makeup and told her that he prefers when women "have a more natural look." Surprisingly, this is not an uncommon experience.
When A Man Told Her He Likes Women Without Makeup She Had A Quick Response
Fortunately, Amy wasted no time letting the man know what her personal preference was when it comes to men. It involves them not speaking to her.
Her tweet started to get viral attention which brought some seriously angry men to her Twitter mentions.
Men Immediately Started Replying To Her With Their Opinions About Her Makeup And Behavior
Both of these men stopped by to share their unsolicited opinions about how, when, and where a woman should apply her makeup.
Somehow James thinks that applying some powder and blush is equivalent to wet shaving in public. And they say women are dramatic.
People Tried To Tell Her The Man Was Complimenting Her—He Wasn't
Another man named Ross responded to tell Amy she should be thankful that the random man offered his rude and unsolicited opinion because it was merely a "compliment" that was "unartfully stated."
Over 60 people replied to Ross to put him in his place about why his logic is completely flawed. Amy was never complimented but instead subjected to an unnecessary comment about what a random man likes in a woman.
The Tweet Brought On A Flood Of Even Worse Opinions
The irony wasn't lost on Amy who pointed out that she was getting an exceptional amount of "unsolicited opinions" about her makeup on a post about how she didn't want unsolicited opinions from men.
Some responses also assumed she would have reacted differently depending on what the "random guy" looked like. She was quick to shut that down saying the behavior isn't "charming or cute" but "creepy and controlling."
She Explained Why Women Are Not Grateful For This Type Of Interaction
She made her point infinitely clear even though some people still missed it in the end.
Like most women in a similar situation, she was not grateful for the man's opinion and his behavior made her uncomfortable, so she decided the time for politeness was over.
Twitter Was Both Supportive And Damning
Amy finished off her Twitter thread by highlighting the double standard she has faced as a woman for simply sharing her experience and the nasty response she received as a result.
But she did mention that she has found some common ground with other women on the app who were willing to share their similar experiences as a sign of support.
She Wasn't Changing Her Makeup Habits For Anyone
Don't worry, the heat didn't get Amy down because she shared this photo of her makeup bag out on the train.
She said that having it out "this morning feels more significant than usual! Nolite te Bastardes Carborundorum." She's not letting any dude dampen her day.
