Women Share Clothing Items They Hate So Much And Want To Toss Into A Dumpster
The right outfit can make a woman feel beautiful, confident, and ready to take on the world. On the other hand, the wrong outfit can make that same woman feel like a potato.
User Rachel_BA1 posed the question "What's a piece of clothing for women that you hate?" to the Ask Women subreddit, and the answers are probably going to bring back repressed fashion memories. Get your dumpsters ready.
Teeny Tiny Crop Tops
One of the biggest trends in fashion right now is crop tops, and it's a trend many women want to see die.
"Some of us are not built to or not comfortable wearing half of a shirt. I hate it when you spy a possible cute top and pull it off the rack and it's a crop top. Like finding a good parking spot, go to pull in, only to see a super-compact car already parked there." - Dull-Rip5494
(Don't) Live, Laugh, Love
Now, we women love our inspirational or funny wooden signs, and whether it's welcoming people into our home or telling guests it's "wine o'clock", it's probably fair to say we've given Urban Outfitters too much money on decor. Unfortunately, that sentiment doesn't extend to our clothing.
"I hate finding a cute top that has the perfect length and neckline, but it comes emblazoned with something like 'Live. Laugh. Love.' on the front." - okyes319
G-Strings And Thongs
"You mean butt-floss?" - HalalKitty
What's worse, sitting there uncomfortably with a titanic-sized wedgie or trying to fix it out in public? Honestly, though, is it a thong or a black hole? I'll never know, but all I do know is that once it slips beyond the event horizon that is your butt, it's gone forever and never to be seen again.
Denim Jeans
The right pair of pants can make any woman feel confident and stylish. The wrong pair, however, has the complete opposite effect. For many women, that crown belongs to denim jeans, particularly low-waisted pants.
"I despise wearing jeans! They are so uncomfortable and heat up so fast in the sun. No air gets through them so I feel like my legs are trapped in a plaster mold the whole day." - catlady10000
The Battle Of The Bras
While some women love wearing a bra because it makes them feel sexy or prevents the girls from going astray, others wish there was more societal acceptance in going braless.
"Even though I've found comfy ones, the first thing that happens when I walk in the door from being out is take that bloody thing off. Best use I've found for bras? Napping spots for cats." - Alemya13
It's Nearly UGG Season Again
"Ugg boots... Short for uggly... I think they're dreadful as they never hold their shape, never seem to fit anyone well and look so dingy and dirty. I just never got the love for them." - summer-lovers
Do you hear that? That's the sound of basic pumpkin-spice-drinking women everywhere crying.
Shift And Bodycon Dresses
From curve-hugging dresses to flowing sundresses, and strapless gowns, every woman has her favorite type of dress. But, not all dresses are considered "equal", and for many women, shift and bodycon dresses were at the bottom of the list.
"Shift dresses make me look like I got poured into my clothes but forgot to say stop." - Wankeritis
Pain In The A$$ Pantyhose
"Tights! I think Americans call them pantyhose. They are so annoying, especially if they're too small and they started to twist around the crotch area." - heartshapedbruises18
If you've ever wanted to know what it feels like to be a sausage, just try and squeeze yourself into a dainty pair of pantyhose. Extra points if you get them on without tearing.
Tiny Pockets
Check your shirt, shorts, jeans, and dresses, and I guarantee that somewhere, they contain a tiny pocket. The tiny pocket is an enigma because for years women have wondered what in the actual hell can you store in them. Forget phones, wallets, or car keys, the only thing you can stuff in them is a lip balm and a single hair elastic.
"[It's] to pressure us to buy more handbags." - wallispero
Even Worse, Tiny Fake Pockets
Women pointed out that the only thing worse than a tiny and practically useless pocket on our clothing is faux pockets. From shorts to dresses and jeans, we've all been bamboozled before by a faux pocket that was just for show.
I'd love to know the name of the sadist who added a pocket onto women's clothing and then thought to themselves, "You know what? I'm gonna sew this shut."
Lovely, Lacy, Lingerie
When she's in the mood, every woman has that one piece of lingerie that she wears to drive her partner wild. But when many women think of lingerie, they also ask themselves "What's the point?".
"Lingerie! Its primary purpose is for sex and it gets ripped off a few minutes later." - endless_googling
Ripped Denim Jeans
When it comes to fashion, fewer items of clothing are as polarizing as ripped jeans. Paying extra money for "fashionable" jeans that have been intentionally damaged? That's a nope from me, dawg.
"Back in my day, you had to wear your jeans out. We EARNED our rips! They were like badges of honor. My friend group figured out we could get worn jeans at the thrift store and they'd rip sooner. We were cheating the system and it was glorious!" - flamingmaiden
Boot-ilicious
With fall and winter just around the corner, many women will be once again breaking out their stylish boots. But for women with thicker calves or ankles, it's often a losing battle between our own chubby legs and a dreaded zipper.
"Seeing a cute pair of boots aaaand they only zip-up halfway. Now I'm insecure about them!" - bedofneuroses
Chaotic Cutouts
"In (online) stores most of the clothing is too revealing and you couldn't wear them to school or work. I see a lot of...annoying cutouts. For example, I see a cute top in a store but when I turn it around it has an open back….It is really hard to find modest clothes that are not old-fashioned." - Pikab03
Even worse is when the cutout is strategically placed so you can't get away with wearing a bra or else it'll be too visible. Guess I'll just go wear a paper bag then.
If Tiger King Designed Clothes
You look like the combination of an upscale crazy cat lady meets a ready-to-rumble New Jersey housewife. That's right, I'm talking about leopard print clothes.
Many women said they're not fans of any clothing with over-the-top prints or patterns, and animal prints particularly made the list.
The Shoe Does Not Fit
"Almost universally, they're designed to look good rather than to support your body. And I think most people don't get how damaging that is because it's so normalized. Shoes are what go between you and the ground! That's what absorbs the shock of your bodyweight slamming into the ground over and over again every day!" - T-Flexercise
"High Heels. Why do they even exist? They're basically death contraptions that are super uncomfortable that aren’t good for walking or standing for long periods of time." - queenlesbian99
Rompers
Sure they look cute, but, how cute do you look when you're sitting practically naked on a toilet as your romper is bunched up on the ground by your feet? (Full disclaimer: I own one romper, and this is a struggle I choose to go through every summer.)
"Designed by people who never have to pee." - loquacious_avenger
On Wednesday's We Don't Wear Pink
The gender trope is that pink is for girls and blue is for boys, but for many women, they wish pink would stop being the go-to color for femininity.
"Sports apparel that turns pink in the women's section. My alma mater’s colors are gold and black, why would I want a pink shirt? The assumption that I want anything to be pink simply because I’m female really gets to me." - HeyItsJuls
Things Just Aren't Built To Last Anymore
From your parent's old gas stove to your mom's wedding dress from the 1960s that is still as beautiful as the day she wore it (as this woman here is demonstrating), things just aren't quite as well made as they used to be, and that's something many women have taken notice of.
"The sheerness and overall cheap quality of most clothing these days." - lastseenhitchhiking
In Conclusion
When it came to what piece of women's clothing some gals wanted to toss into a dumpster, some women just said all of them. From being "tight and restricted" and clothing that's ether "uncomfortable or aesthetically pleasing", it just seems like there's no winning for women's fashion.
This is why I walk around my house in just my underwear. Hey, don't knock it 'til you try it.
